A Helpful Guide by Master Magician Lowell Sheets
If you’ve ever wondered “How much does it cost to hire a magician?” the honest answer is this: it depends on the magician — and the magic.
As a professional magician and entertainer performing at corporate events, charity galas, milestone birthdays, and black-tie celebrations across Maryland and beyond, I’ve learned that people aren’t really buying “tricks.” They’re investing in connection, atmosphere, professionalism, and unforgettable moments that guests talk about long after the night ends.
This guide breaks down what impacts the price, what you can expect to pay, and why hiring the right magician can transform your event.
Here’s what my pricing generally looks like as a professional entertainer:
Starting at $2,000
Corporate audiences expect polished entertainment, smooth guest interactions, and a performer who elevates the atmosphere without being intrusive. These events often run two hours or more and require customization — especially when CEOs, VIPs, and clients are present. These shows may take place at luxury ballrooms, waterfront venues, or even aboard yachts in Annapolis Harbor, National Harbor, or Boston Harbor — all of which require elevated preparation.
Starting at $2,500+ (often covered by corporate sponsors)
Large charity events typically include 200–400 guests, upscale venues, and high expectations. I’m often brought in with support from local sponsors such as pharmacies, liquor store chains, or retailers.
These shows may take place at luxury ballrooms, waterfront venues, or even aboard yachts in Annapolis Harbor, National Harbor, or Boston Harbor — all of which also require elevated preparation.
$800–$2,000 depending on time and customization
Up to 90 minutes of cocktail hour close-up magic starts at $800
Staying for a 5-minute mini-set of ‘stage’ magic for the bride and groom with all watching adds $100-200. this leaves the couple with an impossible souvenir they will cherish always
Staying for an entire reception or customizing routines can bring the fee up to $2,000
$800–$2,000 depending on time and customization
Local birthday parties, anniversary celebrations, and small restaurant events are often shorter and less formal.
Local milestone events can sometimes be under $800
Schedule availability, distance and number of guests will affect this fee
Lower, local-friendly rates available
These are close to home, shorter in length, and offered at a more accessible price for assisted living facilities.
Many people are surprised to learn that professional magic is a craft requiring tens of thousands of hours of practice — and tens of thousands of dollars invested in coaching, props, routines, and training.
A polished magician brings more than tricks. They bring:
Audience engagement
Instant rapport
Professional reliability
Adaptability to any crowd
The ability to make guests feel included, valued, and amazed
That level of mastery dramatically changes the impact at your event — and the value of the performer.
Here’s what I personally include:
I’m there before I’m expected — never rushing in.
Event planners love this. Guests love it even more.
If I’m creating special moments, and haven’t gotten to all the guests yet, I don’t look at the clock.
No top hats, no balloons — just elegant, mind-bending magic.
I’m known for remembering guests’ names and building instant rapport — the moment that makes people say, “How did you remember that?”
This is what transforms entertainment from “a magician” into a premium experience.
A few elements can raise the fee, depending on your event:
Travel beyond 50 miles
Events requiring flights, hotel, or meals
Large audiences
Stage shows
Custom routines
Peak holiday dates
Events that feature major entertainment acts where elevated professionalism is required
The biggest mistake clients make is focusing only on the number.
The better question is:
“How will my guests feel?”
Magic creates something few other forms of entertainment can:
Laughter and connection
Memories that bond guests
A buzz that carries through the entire evening
Conversations that last for weeks
When you invest in the right magician, your guests don’t just see a show — they feel the magic of the event itself.
Hiring a magician can cost anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand dollars. But when you hire a master-level entertainer like Lowell Sheets — Master Magician and The Magic MC — you’re investing in expertise, connection, personality, and a luxury performance your guests will rave about long after the night is over.
If you’re planning a corporate party, charity gala, yacht event, or a milestone celebration, I’d love to help you create an unforgettable experience.
